Writer, ghostwriter, screenwriter and editor
For more than 20 years I worked as a freelance copywriter, editor, screenwriter and novelist for clients as varied as Family Health International, National Institute of Government Purchasers, Cassell Design, RKO Pictures, TV South, and Simon & Schuster.
My short fiction has been published in Ellery Queen Magazine, Blue Murder and a few mystery anthologies. My novel, Beneath A Panamanian Moon was published by St. Martin’s and was nominated for Best First Novel by the International Thriller Writers.
Sr. Copywriter – Micromass Communications, Cary NC - 2006 to 2011
Clients included pharmaceutical companies Shire, Merck, Novartis, GSK and United Therapeutics. I was also principle branding writer for the agency.
VP/CD – PTMC, Durham NC – 1993 to 2003
I was principle writer for Rex Hospital, Carolina Theater, the Durham Bulls, the Durham Arts Council and others.
VP/ACD – Trone Advertising, Greensboro NC – 1990 to 1993
I directed a 12-person creative group responsible for retail, packaged goods and new business.
Sr. Writer – West & Vaughan, Durham, NC 1988 to 1990
Primary clients included Union Camp paper, Planters Bank, Theater in the Park and the Durham Literacy Council.
Group Supervisor – W.B. Doner, Detroit, MI 1986 to 1988
I directed a 4-person creative group assigned to Canadian Tire, British Petroleum, Highland Superstores, Ballpark Franks and others.
Copywriter – Lawler Ballard Advertising, Norfolk VA and Cincinnati OH 1983 to 1986
Clients included Sovran Bank, Norfolk General Hospital, Cincinnati Transit, Cincinnati Opera, Skyline Chili, Folger’s Coffee and many others.
Awards – My work has been recognized by the New York Festivals (Best of Show), Creativity Magazine, Print Regional Design Annual, New York Art Directors and by the Ad Federation more times than I remember.
Education - West Virginia University, English and Journalism, and the US Army Jungle Survival School, Panama.
