Day to Day
Responsibilities:

  • Design and integrate PLC based process and automation controls into robust manufacturing environment.
  • Develop capability in manufacturing systems for seamless part tracking and data analysis from PLC to MES & ERP.
  • Coordinate with project managers to development and implementation control systems with state-of-the-art manufacturing capacity.
  • Dramatically advance productivity gains through control software / hardware design implementations.
  • Collect and interpret control project needs from a variety of sources
  • Development and deploy process and automation controls on global scale
  • Development of custom instrumentation drivers.
  • Expand the Corning Incorporated manufacturing process knowledge base
  • Design complete systems to control stability of thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, mechanical, motion, chemical, robotics, power, molecular structure, multi-state physics, and electromechanical systems.
  • Test validity of solutions that use traditional and advanced control.
  • Actively participate in all phases of the project including design, fabrication, off-line integration and testing, installation, production start-up support, training of plant personnel, and technology transfer.
    Independently follow construction of equipment in vendors facilities.
  • Prepare, present and publish technical papers in public forums to advance personal technical reputation and Corning Incorporated

Travel Requirements:

  • Estimate travel at 30-50% depending upon specific project assignment.
  • Domestic and International.

Required Education and Years of
Experience:

  • B.
    S.
    or M.
    S.
    in Electrical or Computer Science Required
  • >5 years of experience in controls systems engineering

Required Skills:

  • Experience with programming PLC s and HMI s with complete systems integration
  • Well versed in electrical control panel design and experience in advanced control implementation
  • Experience designing, developing and delivering fully integrated machine and motion control, automation, and process machine systems to manufacturing
  • Able to effectively leverage external machine builders and system integrators for detail design, build, and integration of later stages of system implementation.
  • PLC and iC base programming structure including ladder logic, function blocks, structured text, and sequential flowchart.

Desired Skills:

  • Pack ML programming experience highly desired
  • Modeling and simulation skills highly desired.
