Scope of Position:
In this role, you will provide plastic part joining and assembly support for Division-wide or multi-plant projects. We look for you to maintain knowledge and identifies opportunities for new manufacturing technology to support mission of highest quality and lowest manufacturing cost. You will champion new technology implementation, continuous improvement activities, and fundamental process understanding, in support of new product launches, cost reduction and quality improvement. In the role, you will ensure Corning's Intellectual Property management process is followed and any intellectual property developed as part of a project is properly documented.
Day to Day
Responsibilities:
- Supports and provides input to the Division Technology roadmap (including maintaining a knowledgebase of the latest technology advances within plastic joining processes).
- Drives implementation of new manufacturing technology.
- Division subject matter expert in the focus areas of assembly, welding(including ultrasonic, radio frequency, laser, spin), impulse and induction sealing, solvent bonding and other joining technologies specific to plastic parts.
- Division subject matter expert in the focus areas of assembly and joining of like and unlike materials and decorating of plastic materials and parts in a clean room environment
- Identifies and develops complete assembly solutions for new product introductions.
- Provides equipment and tooling support to manufacturing plants as needed, including complete equipment life cycle management, replacement programs, and total maintenance management.
- Drives fundamental understanding and problem-solving skills.
- Manages the specification, quotation, vendor selection, and receipt of new equipment.
- Works directly with plant and division equipment engineers for the install and integration of joining equipment and processes within large scale automation
- Develops robust processes for new joining and assembly equipment. Completes validations (IQ/OQ/PQ) per plant quality requirements for new equipment and processes.
- Ensures compliance to all plant and division standards.
- Prepares Appropriation Requisitions (AR s), manages cost/spend and capital expenditure with regards to new equipment.
- Uses rigorous processes and technical knowledge to build detailed technical understanding for key process steps.
- Functions as a team member or team leader on focused projects.
- Provides support to Automation department and vendors during development of automation systems.
- Uses statistical tools and Design of Experiments (DOE) in process problem-solving and product/process improvement.
- Intellectual Property management.
Travel Requirements:
- Up to 25% domestic and including International travel.
Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time:
- Monday Friday, first shift, but we need your flexibility to support off hours as needed.
Required Education:
- Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical, Plastics, or Polymer Engineering, or equivalent degree program required.
Required Years and Area of
Experience:
- Minimum of 5
years experience with the assembly and joining of plastic parts within a manufacturing environment. - Life Science or Medical Device manufacturing experience.
Required Skills:
- Experience with a variety of plastic joining processes.
- Experience with a variety of plastic materials.
- Clean room manufacturing.
- Track record of delivering results.

Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
