Systems Application Engineer/Scientist

Office of Research and Development's (ORD) Homeland Security and Materials Management Division (HSMMD) in the Center for Environmental Solutions and Emergency Response (CESER) primarily supports EPA's efforts to respond to chemical, biological, radiological or nuclear incidents, manage materials (both at the end of life and throughout the life cycle), and support the Nation's water systems in responding to and becoming more resilient to disasters. The Division is also responsible for providing technical support to the Agency's Program and Regional Offices to meet their emergency response, policy and regulatory needs. Major duties for this position include:
Formulating concepts, developing hypotheses, preparing research plans, carrying out investigations and experiments, analyzing and interpreting results, and developing methods. Summarizing and communicating results to research project participants, the research community, and agency personnel. Working closely with scientists and managers in the EPA's program and regional offices to understand their programs and develop scientifically sound analyses and evaluations that respond to their program needs. Using expertise to help the Agency identify critical research and technical issues. Providing high-level substantive advice and recommendations to the CESER Deputy and Director and senior officials in HSMMD and ORD on matters related to complex systems engineering issues associated with wide area remediation research. To meet the eligibility criteria, you must have a doctoral degree in a scientific discipline related to the Office of Research and Development's Homeland Security Research Program's (HSRP) mission and substantive specialized experience in a type of work or a combination of functions directly related to this position. You should be recognized as a significant contributor as a scientist in systems engineering applications; and as a leader of a productive team, or as a leader in the conception and formulation of productive research ideas relating to systems engineering and associated software applications or architecture tools that advance the systems engineering discipline. You should have demonstrated experience providing leadership and direction in developing and managing systems using scientific data to solve complex environmental problems related to HSRP's mission. As evidence of your qualifications and scientific contributions, you may also:
1) be regularly sought out for consultation on difficult problems in the field of expertise.; 2) have authored multiple, key publications, including several in the most prestigious scientific journals; 3) have received prestigious awards for research accomplishments; and 4) have demonstrated experience building coalitions and relationships with partners and customers to address comprehensive systems engineering challenges.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
