Duties and responsibilities for this position include, but not limited to the following:
Appropriately inputs/accessions/prints labels for test requests, collects specimens, labels specimen containers with correct patient identification, and provides other correct collection containers. Cleansing the blood collection site to prevent bacterial contamination. Use of special tubes to collect sedimentation rates to prevent clots. Performs phlebotomy by venipuncture as required by staffing needs of the Service Work Schedule:

Experience:
You must have 6 months of specialized experience for the occupation in the organization. Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the Medical Technician. This includes technical medical laboratory support work such as performing laboratory tests and examinations (chemical, microbiologic, hematologic and blood banking) and preparing reports of findings or (b) technical support work in a closely related field, e.g., biological laboratory technician work, that required application of the methods and techniques for the position to be filled.Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to:
Knowledge of the appropriate methods, techniques, collection tubes, preservatives, procedures, and equipment associated with specimen collection, and the ability to utilize this knowledge in order to collect quality specimens; process tests for in house testing; and identify tests as referral tests; Knowledge of VA, VAMC, and P&LMS duties, procedures, priorities, commitments, organization, and policies sufficient to perform duties such as answer telephone requests; route telephone calls to appropriate person or office; maintain files and supplies; record workload statistics; route patients to correct service; and process patients for laboratory testing; Knowledge of correct procedure for the collection of Blood Bank samples and the rigid requirements for patient identification and specimen labeling; Knowledge of the correct collection, processing and dispersal of all routine therapeutic drug specimens; Knowledge and skill in operating laboratory waived instruments and centrifuges for the purpose of producing accurate test results; Ability to read, write and follow oral and written instructions. Must have sound judgment and critical thinking skills when dealing with patient orders, specimen collection, and interaction with a diverse group of Veterans and staff OR Education:
Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have Successful completion of (a) an associate-degree course of study of which the 2nd year of the 2-year program included successful completion of a training course of approximately a year's duration in a certified laboratory assistant school approved by a nationally recognized accrediting agency; (b) 1 year of study that included 6 semester hours in chemistry and/or the biological sciences, plus successful completion of the training course as described in (a) above for GS-3; or (c) 2 years of study that included at least 12 semester hours of chemistry and/or biological science course work that must have been directly related to the specialization of the position to be filled. OR, Combination:
Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have an combination of specialized experience and education beyond of post-high school education and experience are also qualifying; such education must include courses directly related to the work of the position. A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
