Registered Nurse- Neurology Clinic in Medicine

The clinics also provide Neuromuscular Services such as electromyography, EMG, nerve conduction studies and sleep disorder evaluations. The Registered Nurse will serve as a primary care nurse in support of the physician or advanced practice provider. Duties will include, but not be limited to, patient intake, documentation, point of care testing and health screening. The RN will assess, triage, take histories, and document conditions and concerns for Veterans presenting to the clinic and via the telephone. In addition to assessment and triage, the RN will assist with chaperoning of exams and assisting with procedures. The RN is responsible for promoting an environment that supports caring and courteous service, safe patient care, and positive working relationships. The clinical nurse will coordinate care through the health continuum using health education, health coaching, and health promotion. Work Schedule:

Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant:
The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. OR The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. RNs appointed to direct patient care positions must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) and 7407(d). Grade Determinations:
The following criteria must be met in determining the grade assignment of candidates, and if appropriate, the level within a grade:
Nurse I Level I - An Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing, with no additional nursing practice/experience required. Nurse I Level II - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 1 year of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelor's degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience; OR a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) with no additional nursing practice/experience. Nurse I Level III - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a BSN with approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN and no additional nursing practice/experience. Experience:
Minimum of three years of successful clinical practice. Prior recent experience in ambulatory care/primary care nursing Previous experience in the care manger role and coordinating care/care delivery Previous experience with telephone advice nursing. Demonstrated proficiency in using the nursing process in providing care for clients with complex care needs. Demonstrated ability in the areas of interpersonal relationships, problem solving/critical thinking skills an conflict resolution. Preferred Level of Education:

The incumbent must be able to perform all activities of the position without restriction. This position involves considerable standing, walking, stooping, bending, reaching, lifting, sitting, and turning. The work may involve going up and down flights of stairs. The position requires visual and auditory acuity at a level sufficient to provide safe and effective nursing care. The incumbent should have the ability to physically control or protect him/herself from physically abusive patients.)
