The employee serves as an Information Technology (IT) Specialist in the Office of Telecommunications Systems Operations (OTSO). Activities involve monitoring telecommunications operations, repairing of advanced communications electronic equipment (e.g., serving as the point of contact for users and technical problem determination for telecommunications, diagnosing data center hardware and network problems), and coordinating network operations issues with applications and system support staff. The employee is responsible for Severity l problem resolution that demand immediate attention and includes severe problems affecting production or test systems. The employee is responsible for problem resolution of reported IT problems not escalated to OTSO 3rd level divisions. The employee is responsible for newly installed software; hardware and microcode, documentation in support of the operation of hardware and software, the analysis of the nationwide network through the use of various networking tools (e.g., Tivoili, NetView), and the evaluation of various statistical network operations reports in order to maintain systems operations across the nation.
Employee may be required to carry a paging device and work irregular hours, wear and respond to a pager or emergency communications device, keep and carry a SSA laptop/notebook computer, and travel to an offsite location to conduct physical audits and investigations, for remote control of continuing essential operations or emergency systems startup in readiness exercises, emergency or other situations and/or to travel to geographically dispersed SSA and vendor offices in performance of normal duties.
